"To make a good salad is to be a brilliant diplomatist-the problem is entirely the same in both cases. To know exactly how much oil one must put with one's vinegar."

This recipe is for the orange French Dressing. It is amazingly simple and does taste just like the real thing. I found a recipe online that I tweak a little to suit my taste.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes plus sitting time Serving Size: 12 ounces

  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (1/4 teaspoon table salt)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Whisk together the vegetable oil, ketchup and mayonnaise in a medium-size mixing bowl. Next stir in vinegar, sugar, paprika, salt, white pepper and garlic powder. Mix well. Pour into a pint-size mason jar and shake. Place in the refrigerator allow to chill at least 30 minutes for all the flavors to blend. The longer it sits the better it is. Serve over you favorite salad.
