I've been making this wonderful cake for over 15 years now. My dad and sister used to fight over the last piece. For an extra treat, try using buttermilk in place of regular milk.


Preparation Time: 1 Hour    Serving Size: 12

  • 2 1/2 cups self rising flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter

Mix flour, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Reserve 1/2 cup of mixture. Add eggs, buttermilk, sugar and vegetable oil. Mix 2 min. Pour into greased oblong pan. Sprinkle reserve mixture over batter and dot with butter. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
