This dish goes by many different names. Yams is another common name for it. Whatever you call them, they are delicious!

Prep Time: 1 hour 30 minutes    Serving Size: 6

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground fresh nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Heat oven to 350°. Wash potatoes and boil in skins until just fork tender. Do not over cook. Cool, peel and dice into bite size pieces. Arrange in an oblong baking dish. Combine sugar, cornstarch and spices in saucepan. Add water, lemon juice and butter. Bring to boil and cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Pour over potatoes. Bake for 45 minutes, basting with syrup 2 or 3 times during baking.
